Saturday, September 25, 2010 will mark the third year of The Recovery Project, A&E Network’s multi-faceted, multi-year initiative to raise awareness that addiction is a treatable disease and recovery is possible. In order to fully engage our community in this national event, ACCA has invited regional partners in treatment and prevention to attend this meaningful day. ACCA will host a contingency of providers to travel together as a united group of support. People interested in attending are encouraged to bring clients, staff and recovery supporters to the rally to support the concept that treatment works! We will charter buses to transport individuals to and from New York City so that the Capital District can have a strong showing at this year’s event.

Fun, family activities begin in Icahn Stadium at 8:00 a.m., leading to the day's kick-off event at 10:00 a.m.: the Odyssey House 5th Annual "Run for Your Life." The Odyssey House event will be followed directly by a historic, unified "Recovery Celebration Walk" along the scenic Harlem River with a view of the Manhattan skyline, where--like last year's inspirational A&E Recovery Rally--thousands will walk side by side, as one strong and courageous voice for recovery.
The Recovery Celebration Walk will lead into the Harlem River Event Site for a jam-packed lineup of inspirational speakers, entertainment and activities, surrounded by vendor booths. Join us as we celebrate individuals and families in recovery; honor organizations providing prevention, treatment and recovery services; and offer a beacon of hope and support for those still in need of hope and help.

While more than 22 million Americans struggle with alcohol and other drug addiction, fewer than ten percent receive the treatment they need due to stigma, lack of awareness or cost. The Recovery Project, inspired by the tremendous response from viewers, individuals and families in recovery to the Emmy-nominated series "Intervention," strives to shed light on the scope of the addiction crisis and its impact on society.
