Intervention for Families Affected by Chemical Dependency

The goal of this course is to provide an in-depth examination of the specific characteristics, dynamics and best practice interventions in working with families affected by chemical dependency.  This course will provide brief details relative to addiction with emphasis on dispelling the myths about the irrational behaviors of the individual family member that is chemically addicted.  This will include the dysfunctional coping method used by families to deal with the addict in the family system.  It will also focus on the challenges encountered by the professional interventionist working with the family, and examine ways in which to overcome these challenges, relative to providing information regarding treatment and recovery issues and processes for the affected individual and the family system as a whole.

Ms. Lewin has many years of experience as a leader in the Health and Human Services field, her expertise are in the areas of staff training, program research and development, implementation, broad base compliance and evaluation. She is proficient in knowledge and interpretation of governmental regulations with emphasis on systems organization, and policy development.

 

Prior knowledge includes program Leadership in HIV, Substance use disorders environment of care management, grants development/management, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization preparation.

Ms. Lewin has publication on the Medical-Social-Ethical-Legal implications of testing newborns for HIV. “Public Policy vs. Private Rights” 1994; “Outreach and Metropolis” presented at the National Association of Community Health centers, 1990. She has conducted numerous trainings and workshops on “Heroin Management and Treatment”; “Ethics in the workplace”; “Conducting Effective staff Meetings”; “No One Left Unharmed” the impact of Substance use Disorder, and HIV on families and communities; Corporate Compliance; 

 

Ms. Lewin is a senior manager with a background in Social Work, Health Care Management; Substance use disorders; treatment development and management.
